Let’s learn some facts about Yugakavi Siddhicharan sherestha:

 

Yugakavi Siddhicharan Sherestha Janma Jayanti(Jestha 9/ may 22)The poet whoose poems makes  an impact until now, Whoose poems were the poems of The Era (in Nepali: Yug), commonly known as Yugakavi (the poet of the era) among Nepali brothers and sisters, He is Yugakavi Siddhicharn Sherestha (Nepali: सिद्धिचरण श्रेष्ठ), born at a place known as Siddhicharn Municipality in Okhaldhunga District, Nepal. He was born in 1912 A.D. / 1969 B.S. to Bishnu Charan Shrestha (his father), Neer Kumari Shrestha (his mother). 

He also wrote agnaist autocratic Rana Regime in 1846–1951, which woke Freedom fighters in Nepal to fight against Rana Regime for which he was sentenced to 18 years in prison.  Mero Pyaro Okhaldhunga (Nepali: मेराे प्याराे ओखलढुङ्गा, Eng. 'My Beloved Okhaldhunga) was his considered masterpiece. Where he has expressed how he felt about his birthplace, Okhaldhunga.


How he started his poetry journey?

 

His poetry journey started when his father died in jail; however, he was not allowed to do the rituals of cremation of his father’s body, and due to this grief, he started doing poetry.

–> The Nepal Postal Service Department issued a post card stamp with a portrait of Siddhicharan on it in 1993.

 

 

 

Yugakavi Siddhicharan Sherestha Janma Jayanti(Jestha 9/ may 22)–>A  highway named “Siddhicharn Highway” in eastern Nepal towards Okhaldhunga has been named after his name (Siddhicharan).

 

 

Yugakavi Siddhicharan Sherestha Janma Jayanti(Jestha 9/ may 22)–>The place where he was born is named after his name, “Siddhicharan Muncipality,” from Nepal government.

Every year on the day of Jeshtha Shukla Panchami, the birth anniversary of Yugakavi Siddhicharan Shrestha is celebrated  all over Nepal to feel proud that such  a talented poet was born in Nepal that thought good about his place and wanted to contribute, however he started to do poetry due to the grief of his father’s death but he had contributed so much in Rana Regime too. Today, Jestha 9 /May 22 of every year it is celeberated not as a festival(; like enjoying, having a feast it is more like remembering his goodness, his work, appreciating it and feeling proud about him inside showing respect, and that’s it. However, this should not be like this at all. I understand that people don’t feel like celebrating it but in school, college and work people should take a time to really appreciate his work, which makes a person immortal.
